Right vs Left Clavicle
Clavicle or collar bone is a unique bone among diaphyseal bones in the human body due to its development, structure, shape and anatomic relationships. Clavicle is the first bone that ossifies during the embryonic development. The name is given for this unique bone mainly due to its S-shaped curvature that resembles the musical symbol called ‘clavicula.’ Clavicle is a densely packed trabecular bone without medullary canal. The average diameter varies throughout the entire length of the bone. The shape of the bone is important for its movement with scapula. There are two clavicle bones found in the body; right clavicle and left clavicle. Each bone arises from left and right side of the neck and extends to shoulders. Both clavicles are connected to the manubrium of the sternum at one end. The other ends of left and right clavicles are connected to left and right scapula, respectively. The main function of the clavicle is to facilitate the movements of upper extremity. In addition, like all other bones in the body, clavicle helps to transmit vibrations and provides muscle attachment sites.
What is Right Clavicle?
Right clavicle extends from manubrium of the sternum to acromion of right scapula.
What is Left Clavicle?
Left clavicle is connected to the manubrium of the sternum at one end, and the other end is connected to acromion of left scapula .
What is the difference between Right and Left Clavicle?
• Right clavicle extends from manubrium of the sternum to acromion of right scapula, whereas left clavicle extends from manubrium of the sternum to acromion of left scapula.
• Right clavicle is usually shorter and stronger than left clavicle.
