Motorola Droid X2 vs Samsung Droid Charge
Motorola Droid X2 and Samsung Droid Charge are two new additons to Verizon’s Droid series. While Motorola Droid X2 joins Droid Blue eye series Samsung Droid Charge joins the red eye Droid series with HTC Droid Incredible 2. Both Motorola Droid X2 and Samsung Droid Charge are based on Android platform but using their own UI, Motorola Droid X2 using Motoblur for UI and Droid Charge using Samsung’s TouchWiz UI. Both Droids feature 4.3″ display but super AMOLED plus technology is used in Droid Charge with WVGA (800×480) resolution and it’s a qHD (960×540) TFT LCD used in Motorola’s Droid. Also, both include 8MP camera in their specs. One of main difference is that Droid Charge is powered by 1GHz Hummingbird processor while it’s a 1GHz dual core processor that powers Motorola Droid X2. The other major difference is that Droid Charge is a 4G phone configured for Verizon’s 4G-LTE network while Motorola Droid X2 is a 3G phone that support Verizon’s CDMA EvDO Rev.A network.
Motorola Droid X2
Motorola Droid X2 is a dual-core phone with 4.3″ qHD (960 x 540) TFT LCD display, 8MP camera with dual LED flash and it can capture HD video in 720p. The camera features include auto/continuous focus, panorama shot, multishot and geotagging. For text input it has swype technology in addition to the multi-touch virtual keyboard.
For media sharing it supports DLNA and HDMI mirroring and for social networking it has integrated Facebook, twitter and MySpace. For location based services it has A-GPS with Google Maps and if you want you can share your location with Google Latitude. The phone also can be turned in to a Wi-Fi hotspot (separate subscription required to use this feature), you can share your 3G connection with five other Wi-Fi enabled devices.
It also has other standard features like Adobe flash player for seamless browsing, tap/pinch to zoom, wireless connection via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, Customizable homescreen and resizable widgets, Android Market for application and Verizon offers Vcast Music. The phone is Enterprise-ready with security features.
Samsung Droid Charge
Samsung Droid Charge features 4.3 inch super AMOLED plus WVGA (800 x 480) display and powered by 1GHz Hummingbird processor with 512MB RAM and 512MB ROM. It has an impressive memory capacity (2GB + preloaded 32GB microSD card with support for expansion upto 32GB) and battery life is also very impressive, which is rated at 660min talktime. Droid Charge is compatible with 3G CDMA EvDO and 4G LTE network. You can enjoy the 4G speed in the LTE coverage area. Also you can share your 4G speed with 10 other Wi-Fi enabled devices with the mobile hotspot feature (separate subscription required to use this feature).
Droid Charge is based on Android 2.2 with Samsung’s own TouchWiz 3.0. The OS is upgradeable over the air. Droid Charge is a Google certified device and thus has full access to Google Mobile Service, which is integrated to the handset for one touch access. In addition to this and Android Market, the handset is also loaded with Verizon special Apps and Samsung Apps.
Droid Charge has dual cameras, 8MP camera at the rear and 1.3MP in the front for video chat . For connectivity it has Bluetooth v2.1+EDR and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n.
Samsung Droid Charge has exclusive tie up with Verizon. The phone is compatible with Verizon’s 4G-LTE 700 and 3G- CDMA EvDO Rev.A. Verizon promises 5 to 12 Mbps download speeds and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps in 4G Mobile Broadband coverage area. It also support global roaming.
Verizon’s pricing and availability
Verizon is offering Droid Charge for $300 and Motorola Droid X2 for $200 on a new two year contract. Customers have to subscribe to a Verizon Wireless Nationwide Talk plan and a 4G LTE data package. Nationwide Talk plans starts from $39.99 monthly access and an unlimited 4G LTE data plan begins at $29.99 monthly access.
Both the phones are availble at Verizon’s online store. Samsung Droid Charge was launched on 3 May 2011. Motorola Droid X2 pre-order starts from 16 May 2011 and launch on 26 May 2011.
