LG Genesis and Samsung Mesmerize are two Android based phones exclusively for U.S. Cellular’s CDMA network. LG Genesis is the newest addition to U.S. Cellular and it uses Android 2.2 (Froyo) while Samsung Mesmerize, the popular phone of U.S. Cellular uses Android 2.1 (Eclair), which is upgradeable to Android 2.2. LG Genesis is a clamshell (side folder) design with 3.5″ external display, 3.2″ internal display and physical keyboard to the landscape. Both displays are TFT WVGA (480x800pixels) touch screens. The processor clock speed is 1GHz and has 430MB internal user memory plus preloaded 8GB microSD card. It’s a single camera phone with 5MP camera at the rear with video recording capability. Samsung Mesmerize is the U.S. Cellular version of Galaxy S phone. This candy bar design phone has 4″super AMOLED touch screen, 1GHz processor, 2GB internal memory plus preloaded 16GB microSD card and 5MP camera at the rear with video recording capability. For connectivity both the phones have Wi-Fi 802b/g/n, Bluetooth and 3G-CDMA network support. The main differences between these two phones are the form factor, memory and battery life. Samsung Mesmerize has a larger, more brighter and vivid colour display that consume less battery power and the battery life is also quite impressive 7 hours talktime. However, some may prefer the clampshell design of LG Genesis with physical keyboard. The main concern for heavy users is the poor battery life.

Samsung Mesmerize is priced at $150 with a new 2 year contract and a data plan to access web based services.
