When the low pressure system of the tropical cyclone reaches the tropics, then it is called a hurricane. This is the most devastating of all the cyclones because it can reach the shores. This means it may reach places where there are people in it. It can claim countless lives and destroy thousands of homes as the mudslides and flash floods overwhelm the shores. It can also cause fire and wind damage. As a tropical storm is forming up on the surface of the ocean, it makes contact with warm waters that intensifies the heat then this is when a hurricane occurs. It becomes a hurricane when the wind rotates in a counterclockwise motion around the eye of the storm until the speed of the storm accelerates to 74 mi per hour. A Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale is used to measure the strength of a hurricane. This is also used to categorize hurricanes from a scale of 1 to 5. This is very important because if the storm is in the lower category, it will be more dangerous and inflict more damage. This is most dangerous especially if it hits a populated place. The hurricane can claim thousands and could also cause millions of worth of total damages.
