Blackberry vs Boysenberry
Blackberry and boysenberry are fruits belonging to the same family. Many believed that both are berries however they are not. They can be typically found in the Western part of the world. Blackberry and boysenberry can be made into jams.
Blackberry
Blackberries belong to the rosaceae family and known to have more than 300 species. They can be commonly found in South America. Basically, blackberries are not seasonal fruits; they are perennial so you can have them all year round. They are usually shaped like a pine cone. Another thing, as what its name implies, you know that blackberries are ripe and are ready to eat if their colors turns really black.
Boysenberry
Boysenberry is believed to be a crossbreed of a blackberry, a loganberry and some type of raspberry. Its name was derived from a Californian farmer who has first cultivated the plant. This fruit can be made into great preserves. The boysenberries are shaped like tiny balls, they are circle in shape. In terms of color, boysenberries are maroon in color.
Difference between Blackberry and Boysenberry
Since it is not correct to call these two fruits as berries, let’s call them as mere fruits then. Blackberry can be called as a broader term considering it has over 300 subspecies, and that would include the boysenberry. Boysenberry is the product of raspberry, blackberry and loganberry all combined. Both fruits have seed but boysenberries have smaller seeds compared to blackberries. Blackberries are black in color; on the other hand, boysenberries are maroon. In terms of shape, these two differ since blackberries are shaped like a pine-cone while the other is round.
Regardless if these two are berries or not–since it has been defined that blackberry is not a berry, thus boysenberry is not too–just like strawberries and blueberries, they can be great jams too. Both are made into preserves for quite some time now.
In brief: •Boysenberry is round while blackberry has the shape of a pine-cone. •Boysenberries have smaller seeds compared to blackberries. •Blackberry is black whereas the other is maroon in color. |
